I have been a PARA for 3 years in NE, 3 years in WYO, and 3 years in SC, right now I am in Omaha, Nebraska. This is the first time I have been a representative for paras to the union. I know the pay is not great, but your union reps are the ones who fight for you to get what you have. Support your local and join! You may need them someday, for any number of reasons.
We don't take the para position because it is an easy job, so stick together, get support, and show strength in numbers. Be professional, look the part, and take all the professional development classes available. Omaha Home for Boys offers wonderful classes on dealing with behavior issues and even a class on stress reduction for yourself!
