Recent federal mandates -- IDEA and NCLB -- state that paraprofessionals who assist in the delivery of instruction must be appropriately supervised. However, what exactly does "Appropriate Supervision" mean?
During this audio conference, Kent Gerlach, Ed.D., an educational consultant and professor, and Teri Wallace, Ph.D., co-director of the National Resource Center for Paraprofessionals, will examine the issues, roles, and responsibilities of the supervising teacher, related services personnel, or administrator who directs the work of paraprofessionals.
They will provide you and state and local agencies with a guide to develop policy and systems that impact paraprofessional roles, supervision and preparation, and will also address: guidelines and strategies for improving the performance, management, staff development, and professional advancement opportunities for paraprofessionals; paraprofessional assessment under NCLB; role clarification, supervision and management issues; and ethical and professional issues when the paraprofessional assists in the delivery of instruction.
