Teacher Assistant CA - how to get started

Hi, I am new to this forum.... I am very much interested in becoming a teacher assistant. My situation is the following, I have no degree here in the US yet (I have been living in the US for almost 5 yrs now), I have complete secondary education with diploma as well four years of study of foreign languages with a diploma as a translator. I would be interested in getting an associates degree in education or a career diploma here in the US. As I have family and work parttime I was thinking of online courses/degrees. Is i.e. a "diploma as assistant teacher" from PCDI (Professional Career Development Institute) recognized - compared to an associates degree? If all those online degrees are not recognized by school districts , could you any of you recommend me alternate routes to become an assistant teacher? How did you guys get started? As I said I am working part-time right now, I also spend about 5 hours each week with volunteering in my kids classes.. I really love being in the classroom, and I am very much interested in special education. Thanks for your help, B.

Hello,

I've performed various volunteer assignments in the U.S. and Africa. I live in Largo, Maryland and would like to get feedback from you as to the best way I can accomplished these two goals.

Thank you.
