PE Instructions
Does anyone know the procedure for a paraeducator regarding PE? Are we to teach it alone or is it necessary for a teacher to teach and we act as a helper?
Our PE schedule requires us to do a physical activity as well as educate students with regards to health and welfare of nutrition, exercise, etc.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

PE Duties
I have the same questions. It seems to matter if you are taking a kid from a special day class who goes to PE or are supervising a kid who is in full inclusion.
Some kids are more willing and able to participate in exercises and games than others.
In some schools a kid from a special day class can do anything or just go for a walk around the school for exercise if that is all they can do.
In a full inclusion class they want the kids to "try" to participate with others as much as possible even if they can't or won't.
I can't play ball, catch or whatever for 45 minutes every day and I don't want to get all sweaty and hot.
Older paras can be having hot flashes too. Plus
Our full inclusion program won't let them do anything else even if they could.
I'd ask other paras at your school, HR and your union.

let12155@aol.com Hi,
The answer to your question, can a para teach PE? No, I don't think so, other wise you would be a PE teacher and get that pay and benefits and respect. When you question what you are doing ask your principal or HR person, if they don't have an answer go to your union (if you have one). Take it from me, the more you do the more they will take advantage of you. Draw the line.
