Pay scale for Paras
Posted July 17th, 2007 by Para2NH
Hi fellow Paras,
I was hoping to find some information or mention of litigation that gave information on any school district in our state offering a pay scale for their para staff. About two years ago, the NEA magazine had a brief article of a group of Paraprofessionals that fought for and gained a tremendous raise and established a pay-scale for their para staff.
I welcome anyone's feedback or info. regarding this topic.
Thank you,
Para2NH
Our union has tried
Our union has tried unsuccessfully for 2 negotiations to gain a pay scale that recognizes our talents and experience. We are dismayed that our board does not recognize our value. Right now we have no incentive to get paraprofessional certification or take valuable classes because our pay does not reflect our efforts to become quality professionals. I believe that with NCLB there needs to be NATIONAL attention focussed on our low pay, increasing work load and professional responsibilities. I think there may be a shortage fo qualified competent people willing to work for the pay we get in the future.
And as a first step I honestly think the term PARAPROFESSIONAL is part of what is holding us back. Para is a prefix that means partial or incomplete. It is not a positive connection for me. I wish we could change that.
Meaning of 'Para'
pay scale
I agree, the pay scale is to low. I have been working for 8 years as a para.
I found a pay scale on the ECISD website that says I should be making
19,000 a year, I only make 10,000 whats up with that!!!
Someone tell me where I can make this amount!!!!
