No child left behind test we have to take?

What is up with all this us having to take a test now to be highly qualified? I was highered on as is with the notes that all i have to have was a high school diploma, when i highered on we also had to take a test to get the job, the older ones who have been there for 10-16 years did not have to take the test, so whats the difference in this why do we have to take this one if when i highered on the older ones did not have to take our test. Also i have just recentely found out that the high school assistant's don't have to take it, I work at the elementary school, that is discrimination if you ask me if anyone needs to take the test it's them we do not teach thoings like algebra. We need a union for the paraprofessionals if any body knows of one that we do have please let me knopw!!!!!! Mickeytn :roll:

I agree it does not seem right to tell us now we have to have a degree or pass a test to keep our jobs, though right now this only applies if you work in a title 1 school which does not seem right either. As far as a Union for paras I work in Longview, Wa and we are in a union, and are required to join. I seriously don't know what if anything they can do about this as this is federally mantated.
