New to this site!

Hello, my name is Jeri and I'm a paraeducator in a K-6 building in a suburb of Chicago. I work with the LD Resource Teacher in our school. This is my 4th year as a teachers aide but only the 2nd year in LD Resource. I started out as a one-on-one aide, but now I work with about 15 students who are on IEP's and require extra assistance in the classroom. I joined this forum to find others that do what I do, and to find out more information to help me in my job. I also am concerned about the new legislation and how it may affect me in my position. Our Special Education Director started a paraeducator course for us last year which has been very helpful to us. I hope I will be able to obtain information that will be informative to my position and help me to be more helpful to the children I work with. I love my job!! :D , and I hope to be doing this for many more years. I look forward to reading common interests from everyone in this forum![/b]

new legislation

Hi, Im also in the suburbs of Chicago, right near you, Oak Lawn, but work in Crestwood, Im not sure if this answers your question but i know that by 2007', all paraprofessionals will be required to have 60 credit hours or have passed the state test if you are an interpreter for the deaf like myself, and that would be at a level 3.
