I'm a new para working as a mentor with youth in custody. I would appreciate any ideas or specific things you have done to help your students.

Welcome new para

Every child is different their is no wrong or right way to do your job. They are little people, in understanding this you will see that you can not have one plan. Talk with teachers, school board members, parents,or anyone else that can help you. Children have individual needs figure out what the problem is with the child that you have because if you are assigned to them they need something. They could need special attention they may be slow learners. Also they may not seem to need anything, perhaps they are just missing a skill ex. fluency, comprehension, or what ever the need. Work together with the staff find the problem then work with a certified teacher until you find a solution that works. Even if it takes for ever and nothing seems to be working, your hard work will pay off in the end.
