Better yet - network with teachers. Some high-performing schools (like the one I work in) prefer to find their own people, rather than take teachers and paraprofessionals who are sent by the central office.
Using this technique, a school gets to screen for people who have the same vision and philosophy as the school does.
So talk to teachers and administrators and let them know you love children and really want to make a difference, and that if they know of any openings you would appreciate the tips.
CODESP is a nonprofit consortium of schools and we produce a NCLB test which is included with our annual membership. We also provide test-taking practice sites and materials to help applicants prepare for testing at no cost. Visit www.codesp.com and click on Links and then scroll down to Test Taking Practice or click on Resources and scroll down to Test Preparation Materials for Applicants. Being prepared for the test will raise your scores.
