Getting Started!!!

I have my B.S. in Elemetary Ed. but is from non-accredited school. Do I still need to take the required state test for paraprofessionals? This all is new to me as I am in need of a career and am not ready to teach or go into the office work as I thought would be my first choice. A teacher's aid or paraprofessional is really up my alley but I am just at the beginning stages of searching for a job and all the other things that go along with making a life change like this. Thank you. I appreciate any help.

I have the same degree type, but my classes were all taken at accrediated
colleges. I have to take one advance math class to have a B.A. from an accrediated college. I just wanted to finish my degree, so my AA and my credits were accepted. I have worked in the school system as a Paraeducator for almost six years, and this is a second career. I am a first hand witness, that I would never want to be a classroom teacher with the massive duties, that includes very litle teaching. At least the children can get 100% tutoring from me, and I love it.

It sounds like your in the same boat as I am. I believe you simply need a certain number of credits in a collegiate setting. Regarding the ParaPro test I believe that varies in each school district. For example my brother was not required to take the ParaPro exam in Osseo, MN - however in Boston all prospective Paras must take the exam to be considered for any positions. Hope this helps,
Ryan
