Benefits

Hi out there!
I'm a para in Wisconsin and am employed for the nine month school year with full benefits. During the 3 months in the summer we pay the full cost of these benefits. In other words, we are unemployed and cannot collect unemployment. Anyone else out there in the same boat?

Benefits???
You are lucky that you are offered benefits. Here in my part of Indiana you get 1 (yes one) day a year for sick leave and that is it. I started out in early 2005 at just under $8 an hour. I am now making just over $8 an hour. We get paid 9 months of the year.
As far as the summer unemployment goes: It was the same in KY, TN and now IN. Since you have a job to go to in Aug/Sep you get no unemployment. You have to have an actual paper from the school system saying you job won't be there come Aug/Sep. Even with that paper they give you a hard time! At least in KY they did. From what I was told the summer unemployment for school workers stopped because the teachers could choose getting paid all year or 9 months. Well the ones that choose 9 months would claim unemployment for the summer. So it was like they were "double dipping" into government funds. So the government put a stop to it. And who gets hurt.....the little people :o(
Hope some of this info helps!
