behvior intervention for a 2nd grade special ed student

I am a new paraprofessional, and I was recently assigned a 2nd grader with behavior problems. The teacher doesn't include him any assignments, homework, nothing. He just wants me to keep him quiet so that he won't disrupt the other students. This child can learn, although he is slower than the rest of the class, but he is not involved in any of the day to day work of the class. I hve been working with him for 2 weeks and he has not been violent or acted out, I needs some ideas on how to work with this child, so that he can reach his goals.

Hi new para. I have worked

Hi new para. I have worked with sped children. And as anonymous has stated, you need to look into his
IEP. Also look at the teacher's lessons plans and ask her if you can go over the work with this student,
by maybe sitting next to him.. If the student is not included soon, he/she will be a behavior problem.
If not I would check with the Child Study team or in NY you call it CSE right? and see what they have
to say. Don't go behind the Teacher's back, (because we all know how that goes) but somehow try
to pump them for some info.

The teacher should include

The teacher should include the child in the day to day activities the child shouldn't be excluded. I would try everyday little by little to include him into the class activities. I would definately have a meeting with the teacher as well as the supervisors. Also I would ask if you can view his IEP so that way you have an idea about the child. I wish you the best of luck.

behavior intervention

From what I read the student is not the one with the "behavior problem". What a disgrace this teacher is to their profession. It sounds like the teacher is purposely excluding this student fso he/she won't have to "deal" with the situation. What about this childs' IEP? Is that being carried out? From what you said there doesn't seem to be any behavior problems. If this teacher continues to exclude the student, I would ask the teacher why and find out what you can do to help this student be successful. If you are still getting nowhere then I would talk to your supervisor. Good luck.
