An inexperienced teacher not open to suggestion

I have been working in the district for 20+ years. I don't consider myself out of touch because I'm willing to make a change however, the person I work with in a SPED class reacts to the bad behavior instead of teaching the class. In other words he don't know how to deal with a disruptive student who's hindering others from getting educated. This is driving me nuts because I can't assist him when he's constantly disrupting his lessons to deal with the student. I have tried to take the student aside but he still makes negative comments to the student after I have calmed him down. Help!

New teacher 4 months later

Nothing has changed for the better. I have tried everything I can think of but to no avail. I never thought any situation was hopeless but I'm almost convinced that this is one. I will continue to pray and keep hope alive

New Teacher and the Paraprofessional

Hi, I understand the concern and can see you want to help. Maybe, this new teacher is also insecure and may actually not know how best to use your talents. I think you must first get this person's trust and confidence. Try to wrok on something together and/or discuss a topic. If this perosn sees progress and knows you are there to assist and be supportive, then you can go on to touchier topics and best service the students. Good luck.

Hi anonymous, how are you? I

Hi anonymous, how are you? I understand about your student. although I do not know the age, I might
have a suggestion that will help. I have worked with sped children along with E.D. children for over
10 years. If this is a behavior issue, why not incorporate a behavior modification for the student. or a fba.
(functional behavior assessment) They call it something different in each state. Maybe you can suggest
this to your teacher and hopefully he will be open for suggestions. The key here is to make sure that
everyone gets an education and not get frustrated by another students outburst. Let me know how you
make out.
